Electroplating is a process used to apply very thin coatings of metal onto objects of various kinds. The art of electroplating was invented in Italy in 1805 but the discovery was suppressed by French Academy of Science. It was 30 years later that the process turned into the industry we know today.
Electroplating as an industry began in 1840 in Birmingham, England. An important early use was the copper plating of printing press plates. Today, not just metal can be electroplated. Plastics and other materials can also be metal plated to improve their look, and increase their durability and functionality.
Progressive Polishers and Electroplaters was one of the first businesses to bring electroplating to West Auckland. Established in the 1960s and now based in New Lynn, Progressive are a family-owned and operated business with decades of experience in all aspects of metal polishing and electroplating.
